While there are those that seek to climb the ranks of the underground and make themselves known, there are those that thrive on the festering floor of that very undergrowth where everything is moist, intense, and nothing short of raw in the most primal sense. Black metal has no shortage of names that thrive in such an environment, and Mycorrhizae is absolutely one of them with their thrash-ridden, old school approach is part of the very finest that can be found in this unyielding realm. Despite having just started out in the last two years with a demo in 2022, it is with everything summoned from the miasma of the forest floor underneath the rotting logs that Mycorrhizae makes itself known with "The Great Filtration". An exercise in thematic black metal that never once allows its own themes to get in the way of a ferocious display of prowess that is extremely fitting to the intensity of this particular corner of the genre, each of the nine tracks throughout this creation offer a glimpse into what this band is capable of as they take more than a few pages from plenty of black metal giants to build a performance that is certifiably their own from top to bottom. Straightforward and simply deadly in its own way to herald in an apocalypse for the mysophobic, this is what it means to devastate all that come before you, take their energy for your own, and blast it back tenfold. Bringing real speed and ferocity to the normally slow but progressive horror of decomposition, the madness of Mycorrhizae is anything but. Rather, it's scathing and nigh on eviscerating and raw in all the right proportions. The forest floor is ripe for expansion, and it's with "The Great Filtration" that Mycorrhizae claims a vast territory that is sure to extend its borders sooner rather than later
